World’s longest fingernails -this is our first Strange True Facts  first installment for the topic longest world record.

Meet Shridhar Chillal, an Indian national who holds the record for the world’s longest fingernails (male). He grew his fingernails on one hand (left hand). Chillal’s longest fingernails measures at 4.25 feet. He started growing his fingernails in 1952. In 2002, Chillal has decided to cut off his fingernails, this is because the weight of his fingernails has caused him to have nerve damage and resulted in hearing disability to his left ear.

Lee Redmond hails from Salt Lake City, Utah and held the world’ s longest fingernails (female). She apparently started growing her fingernails back in the late seventy’s (1978-1979). Her fingernails measures at about 35 inches approximately 3 feet. Despite her long fingernails, Redmond managed to care for her ailing husband and was able to do household chores. However, Redmond got into a car accident dated in February 10, 2009, resulted in having her fingernails broken.

Melvin Booth (left) of Troy, Mich., had a combined fingernail length is 9.05 meters (29 feet, 8.3 inches). Lee Redmond(right), who had not cut her nails since 1979 and had them carefully manicured to reach a total length of 8.65 meters (28 feet, 4.5 inches), lost them when they broke off in a car accident in February.

Lee Redmond, who held a Guinness World Record for her more than 28-foot-long fingernails before they broke off in a car crash, says it was the most dramatic event of her life. But the 68-year-old also admits that things are much easier without them.
